PIA Plane Crashes At Karachi-Pakistan Ramzan 2020

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Airbus A320 carrying 91 passengers and eight crew crashed into a residential area near the southern Pakistani city of Karachi on Friday.

Ninety-seven people were killed and two survived when flight PK8303 from Lahore came down close to the international airport, the news agency AFP reported, citing the Sindh Health Ministry. Nineteen victims have so far been identified.

One of the survivors was Zafar Masood, the head of the Bank of Punjab. The bank said he had suffered fractures but was "conscious and responding well."

The bodies of the victims were recovered from the crash site, the ministry said.

According to some reports, the plane crash destroyed buildings and also killed several people on the ground.

Despite a local hospital reporting earlier that it had received the bodies of people killed on the ground, no official figure has been given.

Disastrous end to 90-minute flight

The plane had been due to land at Jinnah international airport after a journey that normally takes about 90 minutes.

 There were at least 91 passengers on board the plane, according to an official passenger manifest shared with Al Jazeera by the officials.

Health ministry spokeswoman Meeran Yousuf told Al Jazeera by telephone that 97 people have died, with 66 bodies kept at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi's largest government hospital and 31 at Civil Hospital Karachi, another leading state-run hospital.

Yousuf said the two survivors were being treated at the hospitals in Karachi, while 19 bodies have been identified so far.

Several people who were on the ground when the airliner crashed into houses in the densely populated Model Colony area of Karachi, adjacent to the city's international airport, were being treated for their injuries,

سول ایوی ایشن کے ترجمان کے مطابق یہ ایئر بس اے 320 طیارہ ملک کی قومی ایئر لائن پی آئی اے کا تھا اور لاہور سے کراچی آ رہا تھا کہ لینڈنگ سے قبل حادثے کا شکار ہو گیا۔

پی آئی اے کے ترجمان کا کہنا ہے کہ بظاہر طیارے کا لینڈنگ گیئر نہیں کھل سکا اور وہ اوپر اٹھتے ہوئے حادثے کا شکار ہوا لیکن حادثے کی حتمی وجہ تحقیقات کے بعد ہی سامنے آ سکے گی۔

ترجمان نے بتایا ہے کہ پی آئی اے کی یہ پرواز پی کے 8303 دوپہر ایک بجے لاہور سے روانہ ہوئی تھی۔

حکام کے مطابق طیارے پر 99 افراد سوار تھے جن میں عملے کے آٹھ ارکان اور 91 مسافر شامل ہیں۔

پاکستانی ذرائع ابلاغ کے مطابق طیارہ ماڈل کالونی کے قریب جناح گارڈن نامی آبادی پر گرا اور اس حادثے میں متعدد مکانات کو شدید نقصان پہنچا ہے۔
